Fred Hoffman age 78 of Munson Twp. passed away April 19, 2017 at Arden Courts of Chagrin Falls. Born Jan. 5, 1939 in Cleveland to Fred W. and Jessie (nee: Golembieski) Hoffman, he had been a longtime area resident. He served in the US Army from Nov. 1961 to Nov. 1963. Fred was a self-employed machine designer, working for many local companies. He was an artist and craftsman, enjoying silversmithing and wood working. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and gardening; but his greatest joy was being with family and friends. Fred married the love of his life and soul mate Elfriede Schanz on Aug. 7, 1971 in Parma. He is survived by his loving wife Elfriede of Munson Twp.; siblings Lawrence Harvey (Carol) Hoffman of Mentor and MaryAnn (Frank) Foegler of Florida; in-laws: Anna Wohler of Parma Hts. and Peter (Connie) Schanz of Clinton, OH and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Walter Wohler. Visitation will be from 9 am to 10 am on Tuesday, Apr. 25, 2017 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury, OH. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, Apr. 25, 2017 at the Church with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Munson Twp. Arrangements by the Burr Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Chardon.
