Elmer A. Pierce age 87 of Chesterland passed away March 25, 2015 at Heather Hill Care Communities in Munson Twp. Born April 30, 1927 in West Farmington, OH to Frank and Ruth (nee: Housel) Pierce, he had been a lifelong area resident. He served with the US Navy at the end of WWII, earning the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. After his service, Elmer graduated from Kent State University and eventually earned his Masters of Administration. Elmer was a teacher with the West Geauga School District, retiring in 1980. He served on the Board of Directors for Geauga Credit Union for 36 years, 35 of which he was president and attained Diamond Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. Elmer was like a grandfather to Christopher, Courtney and Colin Whiting and is also survived by many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Evelyn Mary Pierce who died in 1926. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:30 to 11am on Tuesday March 31, 2015 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South ST. (On Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery in West Farmington.
