Age 95, of Chardon, OH, died on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at the Residence of Chardon. She was born in Cleveland, OH, on May 3, 1922, to Frederick and Ellen (Nee:Miller) Wittlinger. Ellen graduated from West High School in 1940, attended the Spencerian Business College, then moved to Chardon with her family. She met her future husband, Harry H. Leyde at a Hambden Grange dance while he was on furlough during WW II. They were married in Chardon, OH, on Aug. 31, 1946.
Ellen had worked at the former Chardon Rubber Company for 20 years, retiring in 1979. She and her husband enjoyed travelling and camping, and spent many years involved with horse 4H with her family. To many, she was known as “Grandma Ellen”, whether related or not.
Survivors include her daughters, Karen Coulter of Chardon, Sheila (Brad) Prince of Chardon Twp, and Lorene (Mark) Shalek of Claridon Twp.; grandchildren, Lisa Maze, Jeff Maze, Laura (Frank) Tilocco, Jon (Tina) Prince, Julie (Rob) Wichert, Tricia Filby, Amy Prince, Tina (Tim) Snider, Kyle (Katie) Shalek, Evan (Allison) Shalek, Erin Shalek, and Megan Shalek; 19 Great- Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-grandchildren; sister Leola (James) Madden of Waco, TX; brother William (Betty) Wittlinger of Newbury; loving companion of nine years, Frank Meier of Montville Twp.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law Robert Coulter.
