ELEANOR MARIE McDONALD (nee: HAMMEL)
Age 95 of Montville Twp., died July 24, 2018 at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg Twp. Born April 16, 1923 in Maryland to William Jacob and Bertha (nee: Thompson) Hammel, she was a longtime resident Montville Twp. Eleanor worked for Dr. Eldredge as a Dental Assistant for many years and retired from Geauga Community Hospital (now UH Geauga Medical Center) as a floor secretary. After her retirement, she spent many hours helping out at Montville Country Store. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Thompson and was a member of the “study club”, a group of local women who met for many years for faith and friendship.
Family and home were the most important things to Eleanor. She was happiest planning for and enjoying holidays and family get-togethers, where she always made sure to prepare family member’s favorite dishes. Her family has fond memories of Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas parties, Thanksgiving feasts and many summer picnics in the backyard. She never missed sending a birthday card, and when possible, provided the birthday person with their favorite baked goods. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Eleanor is survived by her children John C. (Sarah) McDonald III of Montville, Ann McDonald of Montville, Melissa (Mike) Carrabine of Chardon and Mike (Anna) McDonald of Thompson. Eleanor enjoyed and was proud of her 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
