Dorothy Mae (nee: Austin) Miley

Mom has finished her earthly journey in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. at the age of 93.  Passing February 13, 2017.  Born July 27, 1923 in Dunkirk, N.Y., to Homer and Marie (Bertsche) Austin, she grew up in Beaver Falls, PA.  Graduation BFHS Class of 1941.  She was a member of the Rhythm Club.  In December of 1941 she married Harold (Mike) Miley.  They enjoyed the Big Band Music of that time, and were wonderful dancers.

Like many women of her generation mom went to work at the B n W Tube Mill in Beaver Falls while dad served his country in WWII.  On his return in 1945 she became a homemaker and mother raising their family on Klitch St.  In Chippewa Twp.  A neighborhood of special friends were made there, and kept throughout her life! In 1964 the family moved to Chardon, Ohio for her husband’s work, and they had many great times on Cherry Avenue.  Her children’s friends were always welcome at her home! Many of them staying in touch with her throughout her life.

She will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mom, doting grandma, and great grandma, dear sister, and special aunt! Her family and Catholic faith were the center of her life.  We will always remember, and miss the variety of Christmas cookies she made from scratch for her favorite holiday! She always enjoyed her porches in the Summer, and her fireplace in the winter!  She enjoyed babysitting her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, playing ball, games, and reading to them.  Always supporting them throughout college, their sports, race car pursuits, and photography.  She was an avid reader, loved watching the birds, and enjoyed trips to the water while living in S.C.

Survivors include her son Mike (Joan) Miley of CA., daughter Patty (Larry) Chapman of Chardon, Chris “Chip” (Dianne) Miley. Grandsons Tony, Patrick (LeeAnne), Jason (Amy) Chapman all of Ohio, Dana Miley of CA., and Nick (Adriane Watkins) of NC. Granddaughter Melissa Miley her fiance’ Paul Maschek of S.C.  Great grandchildren Miles, Madison, Mollee, Tate, Brent and Sophie Chapman all of Ohio.  She loved them dearly! Her sister Mary Lou Commella of Pittsburgh, PA., Sister in Law Judy (Miley) Hall of San Diego, CA., and wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents., husband Mike in 2005, brother William (at age 2 of influenza), and Grandson Lawrence Austin Chapman (at 1 week).
