Donald Hubert Starr, age 76, of Claridon Township, Ohio, died at his home on Monday, June 25, 2018. Born April 1, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Hubert and Ruth (nee: Spencer) Starr, he was a lifelong resident of Claridon Township.
A 1964 graduate of the Ohio State University with a degree in Agronomy, Donald was a member of the Acacia Fraternity as well as the OSU LaCrosse team, for which he earned All American honors. Donald was the third generation to operate Starr Farm and was a bus driver for Berkshire Local School District for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Claridon, the Farm Bureau, and served on the Claridon Township Zoning Board. He also coached for the elementary basketball team as well as serving as a baseball umpire. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family – who was always his first priority.
He is survived by his wife Judith (nee: Kratofil) whom he married in 1963, daughters; Nancy (Scott) Carlson of Claridon Twp., and Cathy Richardson of Burton Village; sons, Robert Starr of Claridon Twp. and John (Lisa) Starr of Claridon Twp.; brothers, Keith of Roxboro, NC, Kenneth of New Port Richy, FL, David of Claridon Twp.; grandchildren, Anna Carlson, Ashley Richardson, Abby Carlson, Sam Starr, Jake Starr and Danny Starr. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vivian “Polly” Gertz. The family will receive friends Friday, June 29, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Claridon, 13942 Mayfield Road, Huntsburg, Ohio 44046. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30th at the church. The family suggests donations be made to the Ruth Starr Scholarship fund in care of the church.
