D, Sorry to what happened to you man. You did not deserve that. I’ll never forget about you. Demetrius Hewlin’s Family, I first met D his sophomore year. We had a study hall/ lunch together. There were about 4 guys at the table including myself. Every now and then we would be kids and break the rules. I just wanted to let you know that D never broke any rules. At the time I didn’t think much of it but looking back it amazes me. He really was a good guy. I remember the food he would bring to lunch every day. It seemed to be a perfectly weighed turkey sandwich which for some reason is something I’ll never forget. So sorry this happened to you, and even though I do not know you I will always think about D and his family.

What I did want you to know, my sister drove back to her home in Willoughby tonight and she reported that all along Rt.20 people had candles in their windows. There were many porch lights on too. But this hurt so deep and my thoughts and prayers are with all those that this tragedy has effected. My church out here a Calvary Chapel has been praying for me and all of you there in Chardon for I hurt so deep.. My brother still lives in Chardon and drives a school bus there. Demetrius was truly the child whoâ€™s mother is an angel on this earth. She raised a beautiful, kind, compassionate, respectful young man who contributed so much to all the lives he touched. His mother Phyllis knew and embraced the importance and value of family that even she touched everyone she came in contact with. Even complete strangers, one whom she became a pillar of strength for that she met on the street while walking her dog. Phyllis shared her deep love and understanding for family, especially the importance of being in our childâ€™s lives with this stranger. Phyllis became a light of hope for this person and a friendship was forged. She shared her life with Demetrius and how proud she was of him and that children are â€œon loanâ€ from God.Phyllis opened her home to this new friend who was a victim of domestic violence and gave this person the safety of letting them watch their child at football camp that was taking place behind her home at The Chardon High School. Phyllis opened her home & backyard as a safe haven for this parent to watch their child play football. This helped give a loving parent the ability to enjoy watching their child play football and avoid further exposure to volatile situations. Phyllis explained the importance of our children in our lives and that you never know when they could be taken from you and to love them every chance you get and to ALWAYS tell them how much you love them. Every single day â€“ you tell them you love them and give them a hug. We love you how you touched us Demetrius and Phyllis!

Demetrius is someone whose life has impacted many others in a positive way, through this tragedy he has given life to others and hope that people can come together and show love and support for their fellow brothers and sisters. I was born and raised in Ohio and now live in Texas. But I was heartbroken to hear that something like this had happened close to where I grew up. My heart goes out to your and all the other families and you entire community that has been affected by this tragedy. You will always have the memories of your handsome and loving son in your heart forever. I listened to you on the news the other day describing your son and you could tell that you loved him very much and he was a typical teenager. His donation of his organs will give life to others who otherwise would not have that chance. You should be very proud of him. I think it is just wonderful that Demetrius had the presence of mind to sign his drivers license as an organ donor. Who knew what would happen. I am a member of a donor family also, and this is such an important thing to do. I am so sorry that Demetrius' family has lost him. I'm Tim Ferguson, Demetritus' dad. I raised "D" from the age of 6. His bio father hasn't been involved in his life since "D" was 5. Demetrius' last name was Hewlin but he is a Ferguson. I watched the interview and wanted to say that even though you said you didn't tell him you loved him that morning when he was late, I feel in my heart that he knew that you loved him, of that I have no doubt. My youngest son is not a morning person either, like D he too is always late, no matter what it always seems to work out that way. When we were watching your statement to the media and you said that, my son came and gave me hug, and said "even when I'm grumpy in the morning and mad at you I still love you mom". I think alot of people are going to take your words to heart and make sure they show their kids daily how much they are loved. Even though we sometimes don't understand what this world holds for us, we do know that God is now smiling with your son and that God will walk with you in the coming weeks to comfort you and your family. As the father of three boys, I cannot possibly imagine the pain of losing a child and although words are not nearly enough to convey how heartbreaking this must be, rest assured that now Demetrius knows no more pain, no more suffering, no more fear and that he has donned his white robes and golden slippers and is tucked safely in the tender loving care of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My child attends James W. Martin High School in Arlington, Texas.
