DEBRA ANN “DEBBIE” KOOYMAN (nee: Van Horn)
Age 62 of Chardon, died July 25, 2018 at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. Born October 2, 1955 in Painesville, she had been a lifelong area resident. Debbie had a 39 year career as an RN at Hillcrest Hospital, retiring in 2017 due to her illness. She was known for her slick IV skills and her passion for her patients. Her grandchildren, Aiden and Bella, were her greatest joy. She spent as much time as possible with them and was happiest in their company.
Some of life’s greatest blessings come in those that surround us: her devoted husband of 38 years, Adrian who was a “15” out of “10” in her eyes, her children Jeffrey, Jason and Crystal who came through in her time of need. Chuck and Jeanette for their selfless giving of time, laughter and love. Holly in sharing her passion of reading and not missing a day by her side. Bert for her love and fabulous cooking skills that kept her stomach full. Mary Anne, her Scrabble partner for life, for countless hours of joy it gave her. Nancy, the best friend a person could ever have, her BFF. Tammy “the ying to my yang” and instant connection that gave her the nickname “DK” and became her “pit bull”. Barb Erikson, a friend for life. Which brings to mention, Dr. Rao and Dr. Gonzales, who were always very supportive.
She is survived by her husband, Adrian, children Jason Adrian (Crystal) Kooyman and Jeffrey Adam Kooyman, mother Frieda M. Nadack, grandchildren Aiden and Isabella, brothers Charles (Jeanette) Van Horn and David (Lou) Van Horn. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Van Horn, beloved grandmother Carolyn Allemeier, grandfather Forrest Allemeier, Stepfather Andy Nadack, cherished Aunt Beverly and Uncle Bob Skarlinski and Father in Law, Peter Kooyman.
“I was overwhelmed with the support I received from family, friends, my team at Hillcrest and physicians. A particular thanks to the Perioperative Unit and Oncology Department at Hillcrest, and to Hospice of the Western Reserve who make this journey easier.” – Debbie
