David L. Schantz

March 28, 1977 - June 3, 2012

David L. Schantz, Jr., age 35 of Chardon died June 3, 2012 at Lake West Medical Center. Born March 28, 1977 in Cleveland to David and Linda (nee: Powell) Schantz, Sr. he was a lifelong area resident. Davey was a Lieutenant with the Hambden Fire Department and also worked with Munson Fire Department. He loved being a fire fighter and collecting firearms. Davey is survived by his wife Laura (nee: Clymer) Schantz of Chardon; father David L. Schantz, Sr. of Chardon; sister Deanna (Mike) Nesterak of Mentor; brother Danny Schantz of Santa Anna, CA; niece Makayla Nesterak; and nephews Michael Nesterak and Steven Schantz. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda (nee: Powell) Schantz. A Memorial Service will be held 11am on Friday June 8, 2012Burr Funeral Home, 116 South Street, (St. Rt. 44, 500′ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), Chardon with Gary Russell of Edgewood Alliance Church officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8pm at the funeral home. A private family burial to take place. Donations are suggested to the Schantz family.

Words cant say what went through my mind when i heard of the passing of Dave.Dave was very committed to the fire service.He would help anyone out when they needed it.I. miss you Dave.R.I.P-Tony

I am very upset, and also his half brother Daniel, so sorry he went so young. Gone too soon. May God keep him safe, he is with his mom now. I wish the rest of the family, peace., I will keep them in my prayers.

Grew up being a junior firefighter with Davey.He was always good to me. I really didnt know what being dedicated to something was, till I met him. He truely loved the fire service and he will be greatly missed by many.

Davey was an awesome neighbor. He was always smiling and saying hi when ever he saw us. He will be missed .

I am very grateful to have served alongside Davey. He was a great firefighter and friend. No matter what he always had my back and was a wealth of knowledge if you had a problem that needed fixed. Over the last few years Davey was like an older brother to me. He had so much pride in the fire service and his passion for the job was evident to all who knew him. He may be gone but his legacy at the Hambden Fire Department will carry on....

Rest in peace Davey. You will be missed. My family sends it's prayers and thoughts to your Dad, sister, bother-in-law, and your nieces and nephews. The times we shared at Hambden are the times I will remember the most.

There just aren't any words to let you know how sorry I am for your great loss. Davy was always a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day with that silly grin of his! I will miss that the most, he could aggravate me on moment and make me smile before I knew it! I will miss those moments and hearing him say hello as he passed my office. He took good care of his patient's, was a good, proud firefighter and always did as he was asked. He will definately never be forgotten by this office and I am grateful to have called him my friend.
