Charles “Chuck” E. ROSS age 92 of Mayfield died April 11, 2017 at Mapleview Country Villa in Chardon. Born May 9, 1924 in Buffalo, NY to Charles W. and Lena (nee: Sheets) Ross, he had been a longtime area resident. Chuck worked and retired from Ohio Bell Telephone after returning from service with the US Marine Corp. in WWII. Chuck survived island landings of Majuro, Kwajalein, Einwetok, Tinian, Saipan, Iwo Jima and was staged at Sasasebo while they planned the scheduled invasion of Japan. This was stopped with the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He is Past Worshipful Master of Glennville Lodge #618 F&AM. Survivors include his son Terry (Dawn) Ross of Concord; granddaughters Jennifer Ross of Kirtland and Christina (Roger) Schaffert of Chester Twp; step-grandchildren Stacie (Steve) Conway of Mayfield and Daniel (Allison) Kalifoot of Solon; great-grandchildren Brady B. Ross, Hailey, Sophia and Abigail Schaffert; step-great-grandchildren Natalie, Matthew and Liam Conway and Finn and Sawyer Kalifoot; sister Betsey Beil of CA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joann (nee: Boring) Ross and 3 siblings Paul and Norman Ross and Helen Chavonec. Members of Acacia Lodge #651 F&AM will perform a Masonic Service at 12pm on Friday, April, 14, 2017 with burial to follow at Whitehaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South ST. (On Rt. 44, 500’ south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) Chardon, OH.
