Carol was born May 15, 1945, to Mildred Mae (Nee: Steele) and Edwin Eugene Rhodes in Lackawanna, New York. Carol is survived by a sister, Betty Jane (Albert) Bednar of Arizona; 2 nieces and 2 nephews, and was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mildred Judith Collins.
Carol was a 1967 graduate of the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. Throughout her career, she worked in hospitals, nursing homes, home health, private practice offices, and in the infirmary at Notre Dame Community Center.
Carol belonged to the American Physical Therapy Association and was Publications Chairman for the Northeast District, from 1967-1977. She was also a member of the Ohio Orthopedic Study Group for four years, and was an APTA certified instructor.
As a therapist at Geauga Hospital in August, 1980, she conducted a study on the “use of Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for Post-Operative Pain Reduction after Total Knee and Hip Replacements”. She presented her results to physicians at the Ohio Orthopedic Society’s Annual Conference, APTA Northeast District members, CCC students in PT, and on the NBC-Cleveland “Dave Patterson” talk show.
Carol was on the team that worked on the development of the Electronic Medical Records for UH-Geauga Medical Center.
In June 2009, she was nominated and accepted into membership in “Stanford Who’s Who,” and in June 2010, she was honored as an “Executive of the Year” for 2010-2011. She retired from UH-Geauga Medical Center as the Director of Physical Therapy in 2012.
During January 1979 to July 1980, she served in Bolivia as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Carol was also a volunteer in the Columbus Ohio Temple from September 9, 2002, to September 3, 2005. She was also an avid genealogist.
As a child, Carol loved to sing with her family. She has been in several choirs, including the Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club, church, YMCA, and the “Glad Tidings Choir,” which raises money for the Geauga Hunger Task Force.
