Betty E. Brichmann

May 9, 1927 - June 5, 2012

Mrs. Brichmann was a Secretary for the Executive Director of the Geauga County Library for 15 years, retiring in 1990. She and her late husband Werner Brichmann owned and operated the Western Auto and Hardware Store at the north end of Chardon Square for many years. She was the Registrar for the State of Ohio License Bureau. Betty was an avid reader and gardener. She had a passion for rooting on her Cleveland Indians. She cherished the opportunity to spoil her grandkids. Betty enjoyed traveling to San Diego to visit her son and his family. She had a talent for sewing, making all of her grandchildren their Halloween costumes and enjoyed decorating with her daughter in law, Maureen. She is survived by her sons Robert (Merrylin) Brichmann of San Diego, CA and Todd (Maureen) Brichmann of Bainbridge Twp., OH and grandchildren Ellianna “Ellie”, Brendan and Evan Brichmann of Bainbridge, OH and Caryn (Jason) Dorfman and great grandchildren Ella and Dylan Dorfman. She also leave her faithful companions: Red and Kitty. Her husband Werner K. Brichmann, whom she married August 5, 1961 in Willoughby, died March 5. 1985. Her parents Albert and Adele (nee: Bessel) Werman and sisters Joanna Kiehl and Elsie Peck and brothers Art and Albert Werman are deceased.Her wish was to help educate her grandchildren. Should you choose to make a donation to the family for that purpose, she would be very proud.

Betty was a very kind and quiet neighbor to have here. She was a very determined lady and always did take care of alot of things herself. Her energy and motivation to maintain beauty in her garden will be greatly missed. Ty& Diane Trykowski & girls

I just heard of the news of Betty's passing. I haven't seen her or her son, Todd for many, many years. Todd and I grew up together and hung around a lot throughout Middle School and High School. I remember when we use to go to Todd's house and 'mix' tapes from his very extensive collection of albums. We used to play the music loud upstairs and Betty use to yell at us to turn down the music when we got too crazy.I also remember when Todd's father passed away while we were seniors in High School. At the time, it was the first parent of a friend I knew who passed away and I was scared and confused. We didn't know what to say to Todd and what to do to help, so we just tried to act like we normally did (like immature kids) to try to eleviate the situation. I remember thinking that Todd was so strong throughout the ordeal and admired how he handled the situation at such a young age. Now, 27 years later, after both of my parents have passed away, Todd has lost his mother. I am sure he will be just as strong as he was many years ago.Todd - Let's get together sometime with Betty, Sandy and Debbie to reminiss about old times.Take care and God Bless.Kevin Ellman

Bob & Todd:Betty took my under her wing when I began working in the Director's Office. She was very kind and taught me many things. I was her replacement upon her retirement and will always be grateful of her tutelage while working with her.She was a sweet lady.Nanette Wilson

Todd and Bob, you and your families are in my prayers. I'm sorry I will not be there for you. Your mom was a very special woman and I will miss her.

Betty was very kind to me when I became Director, sharing and teaching me so many things. Her secretarial and organizational skills were superb. I will always appreciate that she timed her retirement so that she could remain the Secretary to the Director until I was familiar with the job. She was knowledgable and always willing to help and to share. It was good to catch up with her when she came to her successor's retirement party in 2011 and it was fun to say hello and catch up with each other when we saw each other at the supermarket. I think of her fondly often when I run across one of her memos or notes in our files. May God bless her!

When I lived in Ohio I remember her always being a joy around the Holiday Season.
