BARBARA KELSEY aged 87, died at home surrounded by loving family on Oct. 14, 2011. She graduated from Emma Willard School, Vassar College and Case Western Reserve University (M.A.). She married Raymond Kelsey in 1946; they raised a family in Beachwood, moving to Geauga County in 1974. She loved literature, especially poetry, and music as well. She was an avid bird-watcher, and taught her children to appreciate the natural world through camping, skiing, hiking and bicycling. For many years she worked at the Chardon library as an outreach librarian. Volunteer work included Cleveland’s Hill House, Head Start, and giving tours at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. She also taught English as a second language through Project Learn and mentored young readers at Cleveland’s Intergenerational School. She is survived by daughters Anne, Mary, Joan, Martha, and Sarah, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many friends.
