John Burr, then living in Concord Township, hitched a buggy to his horse and offered to “undertake” the preparations of a neighbor’s funeral and burial. Years later, in 1908, John’s son, Henry, upon his graduation from Barnes School of Embalming in New York, began working in the funeral business.
Henry’s son, Hal, followed becoming the third generation to take part in the family funeral home. Hal was followed by his son, H. Marc Burr, who was followed by his son, Marc. Today, Marc and his wife, Nan, oversee the day-to-day operations of the funeral home, offering their compassion and expertise to Chardon families. Marc’s son, Marc F. Burr has joined the family firm, which makes him the sixth generation family member to enter funeral service. As the years have passed and our funeral home has been handed down from family member to family member, our location has changed as well. Originally founded in Concord Township, our funeral home relocated to Montville, finally settling in Chardon. |
